Emilinha, originally Emily, is a singer songwriter born in Hong Kong and raised in Melbourne, Australia. She started singing from a young age and learned to play guitar at 16. During her university years, she began writing songs and doing some street performances in the city of Melbourne. After coming to Japan she helped out an indies band called Soundtrack with the chorus, some song writing etc. during which she decided to become a professional musician.
From 2005, she joined a number of bands ranging from trip hop to soul and entered a music school, Otoya, where she had vocal training, piano lessons and Jazz vocal lessons. She found her true love for Jazz and Bossa Nova through her band experiences. From 2006 to the end of 2008, she was in a band called Bossanova Project P where she sang in English, Portuguese, and sometimes in French.
In 2008, Emilinha started the unit “We, and the sea" with her pianist, Eumir Hisashi Kono. They are currently working on an album “Everlasting" including songs with the influence of Jazz, Bossanova, Latin and 80s Pop.
